Guisborough
Guisborough is the ancient capital of Cleveland and ancient market town. The tall tower of Guisborough Priory sits admirably within the town, offering an outstanding example of gothic architecture. Experience the traditional markets, which have been held along the cobbled streets for over 600 years. Guisborough’s vast woodland provides inspiring views over Roseberry Topping making this a popular destination for walkers and cyclists.
Redcar
At the popular seaside resort of Redcar, where fishing cobles land on the beach to sell their daily catch, you can experience the thrilling finishes at Redcar Racecourse, award winning beaches, or pick up bargains along the pedestrianised High Street. Redcar is home to the oldest lifeboat in the world ‘The Zetland’ a once illustrious service to the seafarers saving over 500 lives.
Middlesbrough
Famed as the birthplace of Captain James Cook, Middlesbrough is now an exciting town with stylish restaurants and bars, vibrant nightlife and superb shopping. At one time it was the fastest growing town in England and even supplied the steel for the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Running through Middlesbrough from its source high up in the Pennines is the River Tees, one of the great rivers of England. The most famous bridge over the Tees is Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge; this masterpiece of engineering is the only operating bridge of its type in the world. Middlesbrough is also the retail capital of Tees Valley with more shopping floor space than Gateshead’s Metro Centre.
Local Transport
There are many transport links provided for Guisborough, Redcar, Middlesbrough and surrounding areas, including various train stations – Great Ayton, Markse, Nunthorpe, Redcar, Middlesbrough, South Bank, Castleton, Danby. Coach stations are based in Middlesbrough and Redcar and nearby the Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Local Education
There is a good selection of primary and secondary schools based within each town. Colleges are also plentiful Prior Pursglove College, Redcar and Cleveland College, Middlesbrough College, Cleveland College of Art & Design, St Mary’s College and the King’s Academy. There is also the University of Teesside based in Middlesbrough.
Local Leisure
The local area has lots to offer whether going out to pubs and clubs, cinemas, bowling or staying in with DVD rentals and take outs a plenty. For the more energetic there are many leisure facilities available including gyms, leisure centres, tennis courts, squash courts, golf, riding schools, diving schools, dancing classes, and swimming baths. For the family orientated there are forestry walks and trails, parks and museums.
